Surviving families · Kibbutz Be'eri
Dekel and Oshri Shalev
Dekel Shalev was born and raised at Kibbutz Be’eri. She has written that her grandparents were among the founders and that she is the third generation of her family there. She, her husband Oshri, and their three children were at home on October 7, 2023. In the account JEWISHcolorado published on November 1, 2024, the children were then about six and a half, four and a half, and two and a half.
Dekel wrote that a message around 7 a.m. said attackers were inside the kibbutz. The family locked the house and stayed in the safe room. Attackers entered more than once and tried the door. Another lock held. After about 13 hours the house was on fire and soldiers brought them out. They ran barefoot under fire, hid with other families, and reached a Dead Sea hotel by military jeep and bus around 2 a.m. They stayed about a month. Dekel wrote that the family came to Denver in early November 2023, first with her relatives. The November 2024 article said they had settled in Colorado. This page does not treat that as where they live now.
The campaign names the children, at the time of the appeal, as Goni, Lenny, and Daria. Hadar Hirshman Niv organized it and named Oshri as beneficiary. The fundraiser was created for clothing, food, transportation, schooling, other living costs, and medical needs during the stay in the United States, and then for rebuilding. On October 11, 2026 it still showed a donate link. It does not establish their insurance or address today.
